[0:00:00 - 0:00:05] ▶
KKL News anchor Chris Holmes from us here and Chris, you spoke with him about this.
[0:00:05 - 0:00:08] ▶
Yeah, it sounds like a wild story, but what's crazy about it is the federal government's actually
[0:00:08 - 0:00:12] ▶
investigating this case, which makes you wonder what's really going on.
[0:00:12 - 0:00:15] ▶
All right, so this man, Josepedia, he was nine years old back in 1945.
[0:00:15 - 0:00:19] ▶
When he says he and his friend witnessed something, they'd never forgets.
[0:00:19 - 0:00:23] ▶
He used to carry a suitcase with him.
[0:00:23 - 0:00:29] ▶
Well, offensive looking hat.
[0:00:31 - 0:00:32] ▶
87 year old Josepedia of Roland Heitz is recalling a brush with infamy he had as a boy.
[0:00:33 - 0:00:39] ▶
I used to see Robert Iberheimer.
[0:00:39 - 0:00:42] ▶
That Robert Oppenheimer and mastermind of the atomic bomb.
[0:00:42 - 0:00:46] ▶
Padilla grew up in San Antonio, New Mexico.
[0:00:47 - 0:00:49] ▶
Some 13 miles from where the bomb was first tested in 1945.
[0:00:49 - 0:00:54] ▶
Jose recalls seeing the dapur physicist frequently near the Albar,
[0:00:54 - 0:00:58] ▶
a local gathering spot still operating today.
[0:00:58 - 0:01:01] ▶
He had an office run behind the Albo bar.
[0:01:01 - 0:01:03] ▶
That office now a shack Jose has visited frequently in recent years to try to make sense of
[0:01:03 - 0:01:09] ▶
a series of events in the summer of 45, starting with the A-BOMB detonation at New Mexico's
[0:01:09 - 0:01:15] ▶
Trinity site near the White Sands Missile Range.
[0:01:15 - 0:01:18] ▶
I was drinking my chocolate milk on the occasion.
[0:01:18 - 0:01:22] ▶
When like a lightning showed up, the glow of a mushroom cloud could be spotted up to 150 miles away.
[0:01:24 - 0:01:32] ▶
It knocked me to the ground.
[0:01:32 - 0:01:33] ▶
A month later, Jose and a playmate were writing on his father's ranch and heard another boom.
[0:01:34 - 0:01:39] ▶
I told my friend, he must be another test from the bomb.
[0:01:40 - 0:01:46] ▶
And he says, no, he's not a bomb.
[0:01:46 - 0:01:48] ▶
Look at the smoke coming out of the ground.
[0:01:48 - 0:01:50] ▶
It appeared to be coming from an avocado-shaped aircraft.
[0:01:51 - 0:01:55] ▶
This is an artist rendering.
[0:01:55 - 0:01:57] ▶
All up at Soughton, three.
[0:01:57 - 0:01:59] ▶
Little, I would say, kids.
[0:02:02 - 0:02:04] ▶
Got up of it.
[0:02:05 - 0:02:06] ▶
They were kind of a sashing and running around in circles.
[0:02:06 - 0:02:12] ▶
He says they resembled extra terrestrials he's sent scene in the movies.
[0:02:13 - 0:02:17] ▶
They were up like us, but they look like a fire end standing up.
[0:02:17 - 0:02:23] ▶
Jose and I recently met up at a favorite spot of his, the Griffith Park Observatory.
[0:02:23 - 0:02:28] ▶
Did you have any fear of these creatures?
[0:02:28 - 0:02:29] ▶
I know, they had crouched at my father's ranch and they needed help.
[0:02:30 - 0:02:37] ▶
Over the following 10 days, Jose says the military cleaned up the wreckage.
[0:02:37 - 0:02:41] ▶
All he and his friend watched from a nearby ridge.
[0:02:41 - 0:02:44] ▶
I still here and put good.
[0:02:44 - 0:02:46] ▶
His buddy, Remi Baca, became a marine, moved to Washington State and worked in politics.
[0:02:46 - 0:02:51] ▶
Jose moved to Roland Heights and quietly raised a family.
[0:02:51 - 0:02:55] ▶
We had lost each other.
[0:02:55 - 0:02:57] ▶
The men were interviewed by investigative reporter and UFO researcher Paula Harris in 2012.
[0:02:57 - 0:03:02] ▶
Harris was investigating a claim by the son of World War II Army pilot William Brophy.
[0:03:02 - 0:03:07] ▶
The pilot's son told me the last missions of his father was to fly over that area and he said
[0:03:08 - 0:03:16] ▶
that when he flew over that he saw two little Indian boys on horseback.
[0:03:16 - 0:03:22] ▶
Harris believes those two boys were Jose and his friend.
[0:03:23 - 0:03:26] ▶
Though warned us to stay away, they returned to their viewing-ritch day after day.
[0:03:27 - 0:03:32] ▶
We were hiding behind cactuses.
[0:03:32 - 0:03:34] ▶
Jose says when soldiers took a break from cleanup, he and his friends entered the craft.
[0:03:34 - 0:03:39] ▶
The creatures were gone, but something else caught his eye.
[0:03:39 - 0:03:42] ▶
There was like a little diol.
[0:03:42 - 0:03:45] ▶
Jose yanked it out.
[0:03:45 - 0:03:46] ▶
I took the part and he didn't my garage.
[0:03:46 - 0:03:50] ▶
Chemical testing in 2015 by Frontier Analysis based out of Ohio revealed that the artifact
[0:03:50 - 0:03:56] ▶
was composed of aluminum mixed with silicon and copper.
[0:03:56 - 0:04:00] ▶
Now that's a common metal mix found in engine parts.
[0:04:00 - 0:04:04] ▶
But the report went on to say that even though the isotopic ratios are terrestrial,
[0:04:04 - 0:04:09] ▶
an extraterrestrial source for the metals is not ruled out.
[0:04:09 - 0:04:13] ▶
No one knows what it is.
[0:04:13 - 0:04:16] ▶
What do you say to people who might think that you're crazy and the story is not true?
[0:04:16 - 0:04:20] ▶
Well, I've had a lot of people say that.
[0:04:21 - 0:04:26] ▶
It's actually very common to be called crazy.
[0:04:26 - 0:04:30] ▶
Jeffy Crypal is a professor of religion at Houston's Rice University
[0:04:30 - 0:04:34] ▶
and founder of the campus's Archives of the Impossible.
[0:04:34 - 0:04:38] ▶
Crypal calls Jose an experiencer.
[0:04:38 - 0:04:41] ▶
An experiencer is someone to whom something remarkable or extraordinary has happened.
[0:04:41 - 0:04:47] ▶
It's usually used in a UFO context.
[0:04:48 - 0:04:51] ▶
Stories like Jose's are far from isolated.
[0:04:51 - 0:04:54] ▶
There are tens of thousands of these stories.
[0:04:54 - 0:04:57] ▶
And they go back to Biblical times.
[0:04:57 - 0:04:59] ▶
In the Zekio chapter one, and the strange animals and the wheels within wheels.
[0:04:59 - 0:05:05] ▶
As someone who studies religion, I'm extremely interested.
[0:05:05 - 0:05:09] ▶
There is a phenomenon.
[0:05:09 - 0:05:10] ▶
It's very real.
[0:05:11 - 0:05:12] ▶
It's very powerful.
[0:05:12 - 0:05:14] ▶
And there seems to be a pattern.
[0:05:14 - 0:05:16] ▶
Jose's encounter happened one month after an atomic blast.
[0:05:16 - 0:05:19] ▶
There is a very strong connection.
[0:05:19 - 0:05:22] ▶
While Crypal is moved by stories like Jose's, he acknowledges the lack of physical evidence.
[0:05:22 - 0:05:28] ▶
Not only was testing on Jose's artifact inconclusive,
[0:05:28 - 0:05:31] ▶
there are no photos of actual encounters.
[0:05:31 - 0:05:34] ▶
It doesn't mean they didn't happen.
[0:05:34 - 0:05:35] ▶
It just means they're not a proper object of scientific inquiry.
[0:05:36 - 0:05:39] ▶
Paula Harris disagrees.
[0:05:40 - 0:05:42] ▶
Her book Trinity details what she calls compelling evidence, including
[0:05:42 - 0:05:47] ▶
the exact location.
[0:05:47 - 0:05:48] ▶
It was a circular spot where nothing would grow.
[0:05:48 - 0:05:52] ▶
Her co-investigator on the book is Dr. Jock Vallet.
[0:05:52 - 0:05:55] ▶
He's a French astronomer who became famous after Steven Spielberg
[0:05:59 - 0:06:04] ▶
based a character on him in close encounters with the third kind.
[0:06:04 - 0:06:08] ▶
In the movies and in the stories of experiences, Professor Crypal says
[0:06:08 - 0:06:12] ▶
there's often a connection to nuclear weapons or environmental collapse.
[0:06:12 - 0:06:17] ▶
His theory about these encounters, I think we are the aliens.
[0:06:17 - 0:06:21] ▶
I think we're warning ourselves about these issues through this phenomenon.
[0:06:22 - 0:06:28] ▶
The most significant impact of Jose's story, a new start date for the federally funded UFO
[0:06:28 - 0:06:33] ▶
research.
[0:06:33 - 0:06:34] ▶
Under the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act,
[0:06:34 - 0:06:38] ▶
Congress pushed back the date on investigating UFO sightings from 1947 to 1945.
[0:06:38 - 0:06:44] ▶
That's all Jose has ever wanted.
[0:06:44 - 0:06:46] ▶
When he was a young kid, I wanted to learn and know what had happened.
[0:06:46 - 0:06:52] ▶
As he reflects on his childhood memory, Jose remains dead fast on this.
[0:06:53 - 0:06:57] ▶
The creatures, he says, were real to him and the craft they wrote in on
[0:06:57 - 0:07:02] ▶
their object.
[0:07:02 - 0:07:03] ▶
He is not from this world.
[0:07:04 - 0:07:06] ▶
