It's one thing to squint at a fuzzy video on YouTube and then decides
[0:00:00 - 0:00:04] ▶
space aliens do or do not exist.
[0:00:04 - 0:00:07] ▶
And it's another thing entirely.
[0:00:07 - 0:00:09] ▶
To subject those sightings to the same kind of scientific rigor that puts, say,
[0:00:09 - 0:00:14] ▶
killers in prison.
[0:00:14 - 0:00:16] ▶
Scott Roder is that kind of skeptic.
[0:00:16 - 0:00:19] ▶
He is an evidence expert and crime scene reconstructionist with 33 years of
[0:00:19 - 0:00:23] ▶
experience and 1500 cases to his credit.
[0:00:23 - 0:00:27] ▶
He is the founder of the evidence room, a group that assembles specialists in forensic
[0:00:27 - 0:00:31] ▶
animation, 3D modeling and motion graphics.
[0:00:31 - 0:00:34] ▶
He took a close look at the video that was recorded by that family in Las Vegas and he
[0:00:34 - 0:00:39] ▶
applied his technology to try to debunk it.
[0:00:39 - 0:00:43] ▶
Here he is on his YouTube channel, Crime Scene, discussing what he calls the entity in the
[0:00:43 - 0:00:49] ▶
family's backyard.
[0:00:49 - 0:00:52] ▶
We can take a video and look at whether or not there is an artificial artifact added
[0:00:52 - 0:00:59] ▶
to it or not.
[0:00:59 - 0:01:00] ▶
And in this case, we can definitively say to a degree of scientific certainty that this
[0:01:00 - 0:01:07] ▶
entity, this thing in the video, is there in the physical reality in which the Kenmore
[0:01:07 - 0:01:14] ▶
family is also there.
[0:01:14 - 0:01:16] ▶
Like this is so critical because you can clearly see through the slots and the fence
[0:01:16 - 0:01:22] ▶
that there is a leg motion moving from the right to the left side of the screen.
[0:01:22 - 0:01:29] ▶
And clearly it is behind there.
[0:01:29 - 0:01:32] ▶
So this isn't just like a head floating in space.
[0:01:32 - 0:01:35] ▶
This is a head that is somehow that does not have full opacity, that the opacity of the
[0:01:35 - 0:01:44] ▶
head of the shadow is only at about 33% opacity versus a normal shadow which would be at
[0:01:44 - 0:01:52] ▶
100% opacity or an object in the screen which is at 100%.
[0:01:52 - 0:01:57] ▶
And this isn't anything that you did.
[0:01:57 - 0:02:00] ▶
It's just what you were able to determine that this shadow being or this being in the
[0:02:00 - 0:02:06] ▶
shadows, possibly creating its own shadow or smokey filter or cloaking technique is not
[0:02:06 - 0:02:17] ▶
only cloaking itself from the people there, but cloaking itself from the camera itself in
[0:02:17 - 0:02:27] ▶
that it's minimizing our ability to identify pixels inside of that shadow.
[0:02:27 - 0:02:37] ▶
I'm joined now by UFO expert Ben Hanson.
[0:02:37 - 0:02:40] ▶
He's a former federal agent and now the host of UFO witness on Discovery Plus.
[0:02:40 - 0:02:44] ▶
Ben, it's great to have you on the program tonight again.
[0:02:44 - 0:02:49] ▶
So I mean your reaction to what Scott Roder did with his analytics, the shadow that you
[0:02:49 - 0:02:56] ▶
saw that was behind the fence as well as way above the fence.
[0:02:56 - 0:03:00] ▶
I guess your reaction to all of that.
[0:03:00 - 0:03:02] ▶
Well, thanks Ashley.
[0:03:02 - 0:03:04] ▶
Yeah, I'm excited because it took a while I think for anyone to get a cop of the Rob
[0:03:04 - 0:03:10] ▶
video.
[0:03:10 - 0:03:11] ▶
I don't personally have it when I'm glad that Scott has done this.
[0:03:11 - 0:03:15] ▶
I don't detect anything overt as a red flag that I would say that made me suspect that
[0:03:15 - 0:03:20] ▶
it was edited.
[0:03:20 - 0:03:21] ▶
So I concur with him on that and it also appears that there is some sort of shadow that's present
[0:03:21 - 0:03:28] ▶
behind the sides of the fence, which he pointed out.
[0:03:28 - 0:03:31] ▶
And then you have kind of a head that looks like at the top of the fence.
[0:03:31 - 0:03:35] ▶
I where I kind of feel it might be a jump as people online then started to say, well,
[0:03:35 - 0:03:41] ▶
now this is evidence of a cloaking creature of some sort.
[0:03:41 - 0:03:46] ▶
There is a lot going on in the video.
[0:03:46 - 0:03:48] ▶
If you look, there's two or three different light sources.
[0:03:48 - 0:03:51] ▶
Every time you have that happening, you can have a lot of shadows from different angles.
[0:03:51 - 0:03:54] ▶
So unfortunately, we'll never have the same exact circumstance where we can go back and
[0:03:54 - 0:03:59] ▶
test it to see what might be causing a shadow effect.
[0:03:59 - 0:04:04] ▶
There is this one aspect of it.
[0:04:04 - 0:04:06] ▶
And I'm not sure if our producers can just let the video go, but when they walk in past
[0:04:06 - 0:04:10] ▶
the gate, something startles them and they freak out.
[0:04:10 - 0:04:15] ▶
I mean, for lack of a better description, it's not it.
[0:04:15 - 0:04:18] ▶
There's no way this is acting.
[0:04:18 - 0:04:20] ▶
Actors don't do it this well.
[0:04:20 - 0:04:23] ▶
Something startles them to the right.
[0:04:23 - 0:04:25] ▶
And they spin around and they kind of run out.
[0:04:25 - 0:04:27] ▶
And the video kind of goes, you know, as it would if you were terrified.
[0:04:27 - 0:04:32] ▶
It doesn't.
[0:04:32 - 0:04:33] ▶
I think that is genuine.
[0:04:33 - 0:04:34] ▶
If you look, they're looking at something towards the back of the yard and something
[0:04:34 - 0:04:39] ▶
spooks them where I feel that it might be a little bit of, I don't know, call it forensic
[0:04:39 - 0:04:45] ▶
gymnastics is to say that it was caused by this thing off to the right because you can
[0:04:45 - 0:04:49] ▶
see right there that shadow appears on top of the fence, but he's not looking to the right.
[0:04:49 - 0:04:56] ▶
If this was some sort of entity that was like three feet away from him, I think that's
[0:04:56 - 0:05:00] ▶
what would really scare anybody.
[0:05:00 - 0:05:02] ▶
So that's where you have these theories that people are saying, well, it's parsed, cloaked,
[0:05:02 - 0:05:06] ▶
it's fully cloaked.
[0:05:06 - 0:05:07] ▶
You didn't want to be seen, but only the video did up.
[0:05:07 - 0:05:09] ▶
So I don't know about that.
[0:05:09 - 0:05:11] ▶
I think just based on the video, it's great that we have a vacation that it's not been
[0:05:11 - 0:05:16] ▶
edited.
[0:05:16 - 0:05:17] ▶
I know you talk about confirmation bias as well.
[0:05:17 - 0:05:21] ▶
Explain to the audience, you know, how you think that might be working its way into
[0:05:21 - 0:05:25] ▶
this as an alternative theory.
[0:05:25 - 0:05:28] ▶
Well, if you think about it and go back to the original, the whole background of what
[0:05:28 - 0:05:32] ▶
just preceded this is you had this really bright object that's straight across the sky,
[0:05:32 - 0:05:37] ▶
right?
[0:05:37 - 0:05:38] ▶
And I do believe that that now is a meteoroid and it may have nothing to do with the fence
[0:05:38 - 0:05:44] ▶
actual sighting.
[0:05:44 - 0:05:45] ▶
They believe they saw a light come down to their backyard.
[0:05:45 - 0:05:48] ▶
There was a lot of light and emotion noise.
[0:05:48 - 0:05:51] ▶
And so when they went out to the backyard, they're already adrenaline pumping, they're
[0:05:51 - 0:05:57] ▶
hypersensitive to sites and sounds.
[0:05:57 - 0:05:59] ▶
I'm in no way adjusting that they made anything up, but perception can be skewed now that this
[0:05:59 - 0:06:04] ▶
is something out of this world we're out to see in our backyard.
[0:06:04 - 0:06:09] ▶
And then anything that might have a combination of shadows or sites they're not used to, it
[0:06:09 - 0:06:15] ▶
can be amplified in your visual perception.
[0:06:15 - 0:06:18] ▶
And this is to suggestion, but I do feel the witnesses are being credible as far as describing
[0:06:18 - 0:06:23] ▶
what they saw, especially look at that reaction when they see whatever it is back there and
[0:06:23 - 0:06:28] ▶
they're running out of there.
[0:06:28 - 0:06:30] ▶
And it's affected at least angel to this day.
[0:06:30 - 0:06:33] ▶
He still has trouble with what he saw.
[0:06:33 - 0:06:46] ▶
